I put the 470 on my 305 chev. Its got a 60 thou overbore, mild cam, street rockers, decent intake and goes like the clap. Cost me 650 new. I love it. The electric choke is a ripper. I work overseas and I can come home after a couple of months, few pumps on the throttle, turn the key and away she goes.. Ive had it at some great angles offroad and never coughed or spluttered once.

i'm recommending the 570 for the 350cui engine.
I'd use the 470 on a 5L

Is the 570 big enough for the 350?
Is there room to upsize jets if it is not upto feeding it.
I thought i read on the holley site someware that they recomended the 670 for V8s upto 400 HPand the smaller size for 6 cyilnder?
I no nothing, just want to get it right the first time.
Thanks

had a 570 street avenger i put on a 347 windsor the other day that turned out to be a bolt job, though i still check every carb install with a exhaust gas analyzer.
the 570 is plenty for what i class as a mild 350. What exactly is your engine combo?GUEEY wrote:Thanks for the pricing.brad-chevlux wrote:570 $575GUEEY wrote:Any luck with prices yet??brad-chevlux wrote:no worries, post up on mondayberetta wrote:Brad, can you give me a price on a 770cfm as well please. There is always room for jetting changes, but i don't recommend it be done without good quality A/F meter.

You'll get a lot of opinions about what carb to use.
I really don't like over carbing an engine, It leads to poor drive ability at lower rpm, it can also make it hard to get the accel pump adjusted right.
If it was in weekend strip car i'd be leaning for the bigger carb, but then you wouldn't asking about a truck avenger and i'd by talking to you about the Street HP range.
in a 4by, where you will need good low speed low rpm control the smaller carb will be better. Though it will loose out a little on peak power.

I am sure your recomendation would be a nice improvement from the impco 300A gas mixer that is feeding it at the momment.brad-chevlux wrote:You'll get a lot of opinions about what carb to use.

Petersen's tested one of these years ago when they came out and didn't rate it very highly. Apparently the quadrajet was a better offroad carby.
I don't have anything else to add.

Probelm with "mates" is you don't always know exactly what the setup wasLOCKEE wrote:Mate of mine had one on his Jeep and wasn't a fan. Can PM you his detail Grant if you want.
Quadrajet always worked on my Chevs with a few mods.
TBI Injection is cheap also.
VERY few people that I;ve talked to have any issues with the Truck avenger in offroad use.
Maybe your mate had the Street Avenger - which is well known to suck offroad.
What manifold was he running? etc.
Also people above are talking about a 570 - There no such beast - they are 470, 670 & 770.
I am currently preparing to drop a 360 into one of my jeeps and all my research has lead me to the 470 Truck avenger with the Edelbrock AirGap manifold.
IMHO the 670 is too much carby for a stock/mild engine used offroad and again incorrect application could be why Lockees mate wasn't happy with it....

Your right. Looks like i was given a list of carbs that included the 570 street avenger in with the truck prices.Wooders wrote:Probelm with "mates" is you don't always know exactly what the setup wasLOCKEE wrote:Mate of mine had one on his Jeep and wasn't a fan. Holley use the formula CID x Max RPM / 4356
350 x 6000 / 3456 = 607 cfm
Its accurate enough, for offroad use a little smaller to optimize air speed at low RPM rather than looking for peak top end power figures that could be acheived with a larger carby.

I like to include a correction for loss between the engine CID & how much air it really takes in.

Wat a load of shit have never heard so much crap till i finally got on this crappy sight. Holley carbs are crap truck avenger wow spring loaded needles, flood tube, side hung floats the yanks tried all this in the 70s did not work. Good way to set your car on fire put hollet carb on it. Wow i saw a GQ with a lift kit.
Well that was a constructive addition to this tread that was started by myself to give me some helpful advise on an offroad carby.jeepspeed74 wrote:Wat a load of shit have never heard so much crap till i finally got on this crappy sight.
