Transfercase protection

Post by duncan »

Guys i hope you can help im getting into a lot of rock crawling lately and am damaging the underside of the truck .What have you done to protect the transfercase as my car has no bash plate was thinking of running another gearbox cross member under the transfercase not to support it but to protect it then a small bash plate between that crossmember and the original one .Also my front and next one back body mounts are taking a pounding not the rubbers but the steel mounts they are all mangled any ideas

We do a hi-crossmember and a flat bashplate under the gearbox and t-case. I will get a pic up on my site as soon as I can. www.cheezyracing.com.au

being LWB you should be able to get away with what I have done. cut the ends off the t-case crossmember, and lift it up flush with the chassis rails (it is only about a 25mm lift). then make up brackets to bolt it to the inside faces of the chassis rails. you can then run a full skidplate right through the underside of the truck. I also cut the body mounts right back to the bare minimum..

i bent up my own plates out of 4mm think to cover the transfer case
i welded some bolt points to out side of the chasie
i made to go from 1 side to the other
it bends down about an inch but it sit higher then the gear-box cross-member

I bolted in a piece of 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle with the ends cut so it sits flat against the chassis rails then bolted a piece of 10mm thick ally chequer plate in the plate is only about400 deep and 600 wide just enough to cover the transfercase.
