EGTS and boost mods on a Hj61(12ht)

Post by T-Diddy »

Im bout to leap in and wind the boost up on the 60, an after an extensive FORUM SEACH (yes i used it) im still in need of a few answers.

1. were is the best place to fit an EGT probe, straight after the turbo?.

2. what is the ideal EGTs for a 12ht, ive been quoted some pretty wild figures.

3. And winding the boost up on a 12ht, i have been told by a workshop i need to add fuel into it, cause i have no boost compesator for fuel pressure, however, ive seen in the service manual the 12ht has a boost compensator on the fuel pump. (also, wich knob is the dam fuel one..)

Any advice would be good guys, ive taken it to so called "Experts" an I get told stories an told massive prices, my favourite being, the 12ht doest gain from more boost, better cooling or alike, cause the engine is already at MAXIMUM as it is.

Pretty simple exercise for a 12h-t.

EGT - install post turbo - 500 deg C is common.

In this order: check / adjust tappets & timing, increase max boost to 10psi, add or reduce fuel so that max EGT is 500 deg (wide open throttle in 3rd gear up steep hill until it slows to about 1400rpm).

depending on it's current state of tune - you won't gain that much, but it will be better for the motor. stock boost is 7-9 psi. most run at 7.

you will gain from larger dump pipe - from beaudesert exhaust - $350 or so.

mine cruises at 110km/hr at about 280-300 deg.
