Im pretty sure all the EFI starter motors spin a fair whack quicker (the late model EFI ones i mean). Try a 1JZ/2JZ, any of the 1G ones, 7M ones etc.....

Sorry cant help anymore than that

wolf 3d, I have it set to the most sensitive settings and it is still sometimes hard to start. its bearable, but if the battery is slightly flat the computer doesnt always get a signal from the dizzy. I think i know where the problem is (pickup) and could use an amplifyer circuit to improve but am worried about amplifying all the other noises etc too. If i could fit a different dizzy or parts of which i most prolly cant because its a very tight squeeze i could solve problem. It will start first time every time when she spins faster at startup, we have been starting on 24v.

If i can fix the starting problemi will be able to change the computer setting to be less sensitive and therefore get less errors

Im guessing the dizzy has magnetic pickups inside it?? Have you tried adjusting the pickups?? (ie. moving the chopper closer to the magnet)

Most aftermarket ECU's have the ability to run a motor at stupid low RPM. Factory ECUs arent that smart and require at least 300-400rpm before they fire up. The motec on my 1G could (very roughly) idle the motor at 280-300rpm. If your lucky, you may be able to fit a 22R-E dizzy, 4AG dizzy, or even a 7K-E dizzy.........

have tried moving pickup closer, it is now so close ite hard to slide a bit of paper between.

yeah i can get it to idle very low (below 500) once running, its just getting it running that is sometimes the prob.

baring changing the dizzy/pickup setup which i very likely will not have room to do my options as i see it are. 1.)amplify signal
2.) spin starter quicker
like i said once it start its fine

Just out of curiosity, is the s/charger still utilising the electro magnetic clutch, or have you pulled that out and locked it up ??

I'd say see if you can find a wrecked EFI tarago, and grap the starter off it. That way it will be a 1.4KW one.......

went looking yesty for that exact thing, only found one tarago, which had a rebuilt starter in it, and the starter looked exactly the same as mine and had no indication it was a 1.4kw, so i didnt risk it. Got the genuine toyota listed part no for the 1.4, but i dont think that will be any help.

the 3y and 4y both came out with 1.4kw motor by looking at my spare and a picture the only way I can tell the differance is that the 1.4kw has a tube coming out above the battery terminal and the connecter terminal on the yoke (you can`t miss it)the only other way is to pull it apart.
I`ll try an email a pic.
