hey chaps
i have a v6 3.5 1996 paj long wheel base
and i have a tick tick tick coming from the eng head.
i was thinking tapets? may be.... i tried putting some tappet free up oil in , but i think it just sounds worse to be honest... i dont think its harming my eng but its just annoying and makes me feel like it drives like shit.. ha ha.
if it is my tappets can they be ajusted or are they gone and need replaced?
cheers

They are hydraulic tappets. = non adjustable.
They will need to be replaced, which is a decent sized job. Either put up with it or get them changed, if you do, change the valve stem seals at the same time!

It could due to the oil you are running or the tappits are partly blocked, I have seen a procedure where you have rev the motor a number of times and this helps .
Also do a search of this forum

Mate when I got my 3.0 NH many moons ago it had 102,000K's and clicked like hell.
I added a dose of Slick 50 and about every 10,000K's or so it would start to click again so I added the Nulon lfter quiet stuff which would work for another 10,,000K's.
It's worth a try before to replace the tappets and spend a lot of $$$.
Also a good oil change may help at the same time.
It's a common problem with these motors so your not alone.

If I recall correctly, the procedure is to have engine at operating temperature. Hold the revs at 3k for 20 seconds, then idle for 20 seconds, rev to 3k for 20, then idle. Repeat about 10 times and then go for a drive.
This should flush any crud out of the lifter. Best to be done with fresh oil, also if you change fluid every 5k you wont get the very often if at all.
We have the DOHC, with 260k on the clock, never opened and there is no ticking due to good servicing.

3.0 with same issues, caused by low oil and air in the lifter. Used Lifter Freeer Upper or something called like that from Repco (14 dollars) - never had the issue again. Only time a Repco supplied product has ever worked for me:)
