Solid axle Hilux wheels
Hi everyone,
Im looking for some Sunraisya wheels or the like for my Hilux. It has the solid axle front end. Are the rims on a solid axle compared to a IFS model different?
Also, it currently has the stocky 16" split rims. Would I be better going for 15" since 31" seems to be a popular size and will be easier on the wallet when it comes to replacing the tyres?
Thanks

price difference is about $50 a tyre now days for 16" rims (price of 33x12.5x15 MTZ's vs 305/70R16 MTZ's) but the big killer is the price of the rims themselves- a 15x7" steel rim will cost about $50. A 16x8" rim will set you back closer to $110-135!
2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
Now compare the 305/70/16 to 285/75/16, i was quoted about $50 more for the 305, as it was a less common size than the 285.ferrit wrote:price difference is about $50 a tyre now days for 16" rims (price of 33x12.5x15 MTZ's vs 305/70R16 MTZ's) but the big killer is the price of the rims themselves- a 15x7" steel rim will cost about $50. Sorry for the hijack , BUT --
Has anyone had any trouble with the front end ( draglink ) when they have changed rims ( tyres ) from the standard 16 inch splits to the wider Sunny`s ???
On my Hilux ( with Sunny`s ), the draglink always needs adjusting ? I think it is because of the added tyre surface on the road ( wider tyre ) -- and more effort needed to turn the wheel ??

Re: Solid axle Hilux wheels
I bought some 15"x8" Sunraysia style wheels recently for my 85 4runner with solid front axle, got them from TyrePlus $85 each for King Wheels "Terra" in white, I fitted 33" Mickey Tomson MTZ to them.tez wrote:Hi everyone,

I emailed King wheels for the correct offset this is their reply:
"The 4 runner 1985 needs to run a negative offset to clear tie rod ends etc, in a 15x7 it would be 13N & 15x8 would be 23N if running 33 tyres then the 15x8 6/139.7 23N is what you will need. (these will clear all arms)"
I tried the rims off my 98 Hilux IFS and the offset is wrong and they rub the tie rods.
I also bought some secondhand 15"x7" rims with 31"x10.5"x15" tyres off a GQ Patrol and they have the same offset as the King Wheels, this could be an option for secondhand rims.
Hope all this helps.
always needs adjusting? or your ball joints are stuffed. ther isnt much adjusting in a drag link, you tighten it up and put a split pin through?!?TheGatta wrote:Sorry for the hijack , BUT --

I have just replaced my drag link after the ball joints were worn and had play in them, tried to rebuild it but it failed again and just got a new one. drag link play is common in these cars, ball go out of round and cups wear.
pull you drag link apart, its pretty simple, and check a) your ball is round, b) the cups arent worn and c) your springs are within specs length wise.
