Exhaust gas recirculation tube on GU TD42
Exhaust gas recirculation tube on GU TD42
I received a letter from Nissan about possible problems with the above mentioned tube/pipe. Would I be better off removing it completly as I can not think of a reason why I would want exhaust entering my intake. My vehicle is used for work and weighs about 3200kg and returns a fuel consumption of 17.5L/100km. I have noticed that it will run on for a short while after switching off which I assume is oil or fuel is getting into the intake.

Some block the EGR, the recall was 12mths ago or so.

in answer to your question: yes, you will be better blocking it off.
once youve done that you can disable the intercooler butterly as well.
block the egr tube both ends then the knuckle dragging apprentice at nissan wont have to do the recall work on your vehicle.
17 l/100 is high. i have been achieving 12-12.5/100 city driving
few things to think about
first & foremost, have you ever had the injection timing checked? - the factory setting is quite retarded, advancing it has some reasonable gains.
when was the air filter last changed?
when were the valves last adjusted?
what oil is in the t-case? - its supposed to be nissan matic-d, not plain old gear oil.
you can clean out the intercooler and regain some of the losses.
did you try the search function on patrol4x4. all this info is there

Why bother removing the egr tube and blocking it off, what gains do you think you will get!, You are likely to snap the exhaust manifold studs, A real pain! The Egr tubes are a prick to get out!, lover the back of the gear box and take it out underneath or lever the motor forward and remove it from the top, or you could just cut it and remove it that way , if you are blocking it up then you wont have to get a new one back in there.
The butterfly valve in the intake pipe is part of a shut down system, removing this wont help the run on problem.
If you dont get the recall done you may have trouble getting rego in the future as this is how they regulate that the recalls get done, (This is not nissans doing)
Timing can affect run on , and there is a idle solinod in the fuel pump that can play up, I have seen this with very small metal filings on the end (as it is magnetic), this can affect the sealing off on shut down. Also acceserary power from stereos and stuff in the sysem can hold power to the soilnod for longer that it is ment to on shut down.
I would get the recall done first, then if you still wont to block it up it will be easyer to remove as there will be new nuts/studs fitted that will come off easyer. See if you can get the old recall tube and block the end of this,
Oil in the intake wont be the cause of your run on issue!

Living the dream on the hill that floods
i agree that there isnt any performance gain from blocking the egr HOWEVER keeping recirculated exhaust gases from mixing with oil in the intake & forming black sludge is worth while.patrol man wrote:Why bother removing the egr tube and blocking it off, what gains do you think you will get!
no its not.patrol man wrote:The butterfly valve in the intake pipe is part of a shut down system
it is to interupt air flow from the turbo so that exhaust gas can recirculate
its clearly outlined in the 2002 supplement from the genuine nissan manual
putting a plate in either end is alot easier than removing the tubepatrol man wrote:The Egr tubes are a prick to get out!, lover the back of the gear box and take it out underneath or lever the motor forward and remove it from the top, or you could just cut it and remove it that way , if you are blocking it up then you wont have to get a new one back in there.
i had no issues what so ever with studs getting stuck.
agreed new studs would be good to deal with
