Tough Dog shock, adjuster stuck

Hey Guys,

I have a set of tough dog shocks and one of the back adjusting knobs has broken off, i took the knob off and its all rusty under there.

The "valve" underneath the adjusting knob was stuck, i have pushed it in the whole way(after a rp7 bath) but i will not come back out.

Any ideas on where to get the shock looked at? or am i up for a new shock.

The other three are fine.

Simply push piston in with something blunt try not to mark it,this will place valve at highest setting go for a quick drive hit some small bumps,piston should now be in the out/soft position.repeat process until free.
*Note make sure clip stopping piston coming all the way out is still in position.Piston will never be totally free as it sometimes needs hydralic pressure to pump it out to the soft setting.More importantly it should push in and return out upon driving with adjuster off.
If this does not work take your shock to where you purchased it/them from and they may be able to unclip and free up piston for you???

there are servicable by 4 way suspention,
but i have them and i would not be buying them again h ave had lots of prblems

Mate i had the same problem but with three of them. The seals are not up to the job and allow water in. My advice for anyone buying new ones is to remove the adjuster, lubricate with a good quality marine type grease and refit the adjuster with sika to seal.

I removed and refitted the shocks several times to clean with a wire brush in a drill and lubricate with wd40. Even left the shocks on their side with wd40 in the holes for a week. Wouldn't free up at all and piston was stuck all the way in the bore.

I ended up drilling a small hole in the piston and screwing a small screw in and using that to pull the piston back. Continually working the piston back and forth while lubricating got them free. I now check them every few months. But basically I've left them on A 1/2 way setting.
There a PITA and i wouldn't get them again.

I only drilled enough to get about two threads of a self tapper starter. Probably about 4mm. Think I ground the screw first to remove the point. I'd have a guess of the piston being about 10-12mm. Just center punch first and take it slowly. Heaps of wd40.
