Few questions about GQ's.

Post by ethann »

G'day,

I own a 89 Pajero import, So it has coil rear but it has ifs.
I want to start playing with the big boys.

I've been thinking along the lines of a GQ, I'd love a GU (Really like the shape) but I don't wanna spend that much money then go out and dent it =p.

That's why I'm leaning towards a GQ. They look fair nice when there got a 6 inch lift and running 35's.

I've been trying to research a few things but would just like some first hand answers.

What are the pros and cons of Petrol/gas vs Diesel?

Hows the drive train in them? Which models came out with LSD's? And I've read that a few came out with factory rear lockers?

What about the drive train if I was to run 33's or 35's? Are the cvs pretty good? or is there an upgrade cv that people use?

If I lifted a GQ, Say 4 inch suspension + 2 inch BL, Ran 33's (or 35's not sure) with an lsd and a front locker, It would be a fairly capable truck wouldn't it?

Sorry for all the questions, Still learning the tricks of the trade.
Thanks for the help guys.

Diesel lovers will say they are better, Petrol lovers will say they are better.

For doing what? Most comp trucks run GQ diffs, and now GU ones.
Which models came out with LSD's?
all that didnt have lockers.
And I've read that a few came out with factory rear lockers?
yes.

for what use? they are pretty strong gigs..

I'd say why are you lifting it 6inches to start with?
If you ran 3inch lift, no body and 33/35's MT's it will be very capable. Plenty of 100's of threads on fitting 35's to GQs.

Good luck.

From memory they were in the earlier models more regularly.

i just picked up a 88 GQ petty with factory rear locker, 33s and 2" lift, full arb bar, scrub bars and steps with dual batteries and dual fuel tanks, for $2500.

i find the drive with 33s better with standard ratios than 35s, i think as soon as you go to 35s is probably when you should be doin something about it.

as bogged said i think 3" lift is a good size for running 35s. never had a diesel so cant comment on them, have had a few pettys and some on gas, find em really good. just make sure you always check the head as is a common problem when run on gas.
