80 series springs in s1 disco

can you put 80 series springs in a disco ive heard you can in the rear but wat about the front im trying for a 3 to 4" lift

std front 80s springs will give you 3.5 inches of lift in a s1 disco you will need to modify the lower spring perches or flip them and space them up with a shim i run 2 inch lifted 80 fronts with 2 inch raised mounts in the front of mine and 4 inch lifted 80 fronts in the rear of mine which gives 7 inch of lift roughly

but with standard diffs and links i would not go any more than 3or 4 inches of lift but you will also need to modify your front driveshaft or fit a part time conversion or your unis will wear fast

I've put them in the rear of mine but the front is the same except for shock mount so yes they will.

I used 2nd hand original height springs so they probably have sagged but I only got 2in lift. Which is a plus as it matched my 2in front LR springs.

I think the big difference is in free length. They are much longer than LR springs. To fit the cruiser springs I needed to remove the shock, jack up the body and drop the axle until the disc hit the concrete. Even then I had to compress the spring some to get it in.
So if you got the right spring rate then you could get a big lift.

With 3 inch lifts we have never seen any adverse affects with just fitting springs and shox. And hasnt been expensive at all.
If anythn they have driven better on road. 4 inch lifts i wouldnt have a clue as i dont see a need for them but each to there own.

thats interesting nottie, I was always of the opinionand been told by others that 3 inch or more will affect steering without any mods such as castor plates, bushes or the like. I reckon the back would be okay, but the front I was a different story. How does the alignment go without adjustable panhard rods, I reckon one wheel might poke out further than the other.....any info appreciated

From what I've seen, that may depend on where the 3" is measured from.

From old saggy suspensions ride height it may be ok, but from what I've seen when its from new suspension specs it doesn't work.

I have Kings comfort, standard height, 80 series springs in my disco - Kings KTFS-94C in front and KTFS-69C in rear. Bit over 3" lift.

There are 2 different lengths in stock 80 series springs. About 1" difference in free length. I have the longer ones in rear and shorter ones in front.

With 2" longer travel bilstein shockies it drives good on and off road.

Zordo the fella we get our suspension stuff from does for shore get us 3inch lifted over standed Lovells springs (and is alot cheaper then any others out there ) As far as needing adjustable panhard i dont think it does. Next time im in my shed ill measure some stuff up and let you know the findings. As far as castor goes its up to yourself and how you like your car to handle. We are in the process of making up some front cranked arms with diffrent castors in them. I like my car to be over castored. Where a mate likes his under so each to there own. I would suggest if you were looking to lift your car ( up to 3 inch) then do it and see how it drives then decide how much castor you want.

Until I am able to buy new shocks, I was intending on getting 3 inch Dobinson coils off Shane at Suspension Stuff and using my Ranchos. However, your info on the 80 series coils has me thinking. How long have you had these coils in your Disco for and have you had to modify anything else as a result of the lift and springs?

My disco is a 98. I had to remove the front sway bar as it interfered with the tailshaft.

Rear swaybar limits down travel before stock shockies. It could be spaced down or removed. But that has nothing to do with springs.

The top hat plates that the bottom end of the springs seat on, have to be unbolted and refitted upside down because the coils at one end of the toyota springs are wound at a smaller diameter. The fit inside the reversed plates.

I paid $180 pair for Kings springs from Bowers. If you find second hand stock springs, they should be cheap.
