how cold does your evakool freezer get?
Hi chaps.
Ive recently purchased an evakool 47ltr fridge freezer.
On 30 deg day, it would only get to -10 under the evap plate.
The fridge side only got to 10deg.
It was running on max setting, and ran non stop.
It took a whole day to cool a 6 pack of beer in it, when it already had 3lts milk, and 2lts oj that were pre cooled out of the fridge.
I also put in 2 1.25 ltr prefrozen water, and 2 1lt uht milk pre frozen that I use as ballast in our home fridge which was at -15.
On a 20 deg day, its getting to -17.
Fridge just gets to 2deg.
Again, beer at room temp takes ages to cool down.
My 3 way cooled beer quicker than this.
Measurements are taken at the base of the evap plate.
Have used both the evakool temp guage, and a calibrated one I used to use for cooling systems and ac use whilst I was a mechanic.
Both gave simmilar temps to within 2 deg.
On their website, they show -25 at 32 deg ambient.
I could not get near that even when running for 24hrs+
Today at 20 deg, its been running flat out for 7 hrs, and only -17 in the freezer. Evan after it has been looked at by a fridgie and adjusted.
Am I expecting too much from this unit??
Mates engel gets to -25 in a few hrs
I would have expected the danfoss to give better results than this.
cheers

you might need to take it back as broken.
I took a look at their website and it's not what I was thinking it could have been.
It's fridge plate is tiny though, the engel and waco have them wrapped around the whole box.
does it only go around the 3 sides?

My 47 litre evakool on the lowest setting (1/10) with foam moved to run whole thing as fridge runs 0.5 freezer and 5 in fridge section.
run lowest setting with foam in for defined fridge freezer then about -5-10 and bout 4 inf fridge...
Crank it to ten and you would freeze penquins.........
think you def have a fualt

Hi chaps.
Well it looks like the original fridge may have had a fault with it.
It was replaced with another one, and straight away, it cooled far more, down to -25 after 6 hrs in the freezer, and the fridge cooled as well.
Ambient temp was a bit cooler at 20deg, but the difference is substantial.
Apparently the warmer the ambient, the more it can draw down from than cooler ambient.
So with it being cooler ambient, and the system cooling far more than the last one, if its bac up at 30deg ambient, then it should cool down further still.
Beer cools in the fridge side now, and after 6 hrs is perfect chilled temp. Have not spaced up the divider yet.
Running in economy mode at 6 overnight, freezer is -5.5 to -12 when cycling.
at 8 its -7.5 to -15. Fridge side 0 deg base +4 at the far end half way up.
Have repacked it with goods again in the freezer and fridge typical of what we take out with us, and put it back up to normal mode, max setting, and will measure the progrss of the temp, as there is a large difference between the top and bottom of the freezer section.
Bottom of freezer -15, top -4. The top of the snags started to defrost overnight on economy 6. Even tho the overnight ambient was 11.
Once again, great service from Evakool, very helpfull in offering a replacement in the first instance, and help in getting the most out of the unit.
Thanks to those here in their replies, This unit is giving better results than the first.

The above figures were running off the evapower 240 adaptor.
running 8 gauge, 6b&s 16mmsq cable thru anderson plugs to the 3rd battery, and to the fridge.
voltage drop is not an issue here.

Update:
Checked fridge temp last night, had left it on max setting.
-31deg, ambient 19.
It cycled on off last night, its currently 22.5 deg, and -30 in the freezer, -4 in the fridge.
Far better results than the first one.
The only problem with it now, is that its too cold
LOL.
The 3lts milk is starting to freeze.

frezzer should be -18 or more at least
fridge should be -4 at least
that goes for everything. so your getting the right temps really.
you just need to remember that inside a 4wd/car the inside temp will be higher than current day temp, see how it goes without the cover if it's cycling lots then it might be set too high.

Update.
Previous temps were from behind the evap plate.
Well the replacement fridge worked better than the first, but still not that good.
Top 30+mm of the freezer, under the perspex top would defrost on dial setting #8 normal, which is well over 3/4 of the dial.
I took it back, and got the fridgie to have a look at it.
Ended up being low on refrigerand too. just like the first one.
Works well now, all the evap gets cold, before the 3 top and most of the 4th tube would not frost, just sweat.
Now the top perspex cover on the freezer actually had frost on it.
First time thats happened.
Now cools in the fridge as I would expect, and all of the freezer stays frozen.
Biggest difference noticed straight away is how quickly the fridge cools compared to before when just half of the evap plate would frost.
