Hey guys,
I am doing some R&D on toyota coil front ends for the NEW Superflex Arms and need some help. I am chasing some info &/or pics of 80's/100's/79's flexed out to max in the front end. Some shock/setup info would be great too, like shock travel, type and size of springs? Any info will help, but MAX flex please not just slightly twisted up. I did some initial tests and found the front ends quite limited. Basicly got a stock'ish 3" 80, removed the front shocks and backed it up a 30deg ramp till the front tire was off the ground (MAX flex!) and measured the distance differentials across the shock towers.
Results so far: sway bar on - 100mm of travel differential, swaybar off ~150mm of travel differential, bolt removed from 1 arm (3link'ish or xlink maxed) 300mm of travel differential. So i have some good design parameters to start with, but some more data would help heaps?

i have 80x housings and coil hats, 3 link front with arms 300mm over length. geometry and shock towers mimic front end distances so i effectively run/can fit similar shocks that can fit in an 80 front.
i can tell you that with the front shock removed i go from 470 odd to 770 between mounting surfaces on the pin/pin shock mounts

I must say i am surprised that no other LC owners have any flex info/pics? Oh well i spose there is no need to put LC superflex arms into production, obviously not real market for them... looks like the nissans (dirty word) will have it over the LC's for good.

I flipped the front arms to ontop of the diff, built a custom x link, high steer,moved both panhards up, it has std rear arms but i have relocated them higher on the diff so that everything works a bit better and custom shock mounts all round, so i have the same shocks at each corner.....
the springs, shocks, panhards and high steer is around 3K worth, all the custom stuff cost me nothing as i did it myslef outta shit i managed to "scrounge" lol...
but knowing wat i know now u would only need springs and shocks, as once u move the panhards it goes back to factory lengths... so u could save a few hundred there.
the rest was just a bit of elbow grease really
yeah cranky's is the benchmark of max flex IMO. But X-links drive like crap on the road. the flex is cool but thats about it, they have the almost non-existant roll stiffness of a 3link(+panhard) but none of the anti-squat or IC benefits of a proper 3link(+p). Also as you lean to one side the link angle increases which further increases the 'jacking' effect of the arm.... mmmm not good.
I have been spoilt lately, we were allowed to use one of our sponsors DD to tow the DGR lux and trailer to TT09. Its a 5" lifted GU with superflex arms and 14" travel boss shocks. All i can say is WOW, it drives and tows like a stocker, nothing like a $hitty lifted nissan at all. We were towing the lux+spares (~2450kg) easily at WELL over 100kph (140+ ).
So if my new designs get same if not better flex and drive as well i will be stoked. I am certainly keen to get this project as good as i possibly can. The big advantage toyotas have going for them is they have a much more 'tolerant' kingpin inclination angle, which is partly why the are less prone to the terrible headshake the GQ/GU's get.

mate i have spoken to superior a few times and have been waiting for awhile for these arms,at the moment my 80 is stock cause im waiting for the arms before i do anything to it. i can try put some pics of my 80 up for you,its stock like i said with a back tyre up on a ramp with the flexed side front shock out.let me know if you want the pics cause it'll take me awhile to try get them on

thanks for the pics! it confirms the amount of travel we are getting from our 'test' rig. We are surprised by the some what small amount of actual shock travel used to get good flex. Initial testing of a full production arm should start later this week so, i can't wait i am hoping for good results. I will post up pics as soon as we have more info! (early next week, iff all goes well).

mine doesnt drive like crap tho.. ive pinned it drives as if the link wasnt in there
