Someone tried it, don't think this one had a brilliant rev range though.

some thing like a gsx1400 or a bandit 1200 would be a fun thing. lots of
toque and not to rev happy plus the sequential gear box would be a lot
of fun. how cool would a electric over air shifter be.
an 8:1 gear set would take care off the gearing. make one and take photos.

oh and no matter what people think HD's are not motorbikes
they are just shitboxes.

 Though there are some bikes/quads with reverse, might be worth a though. Of you could try to adapt a reverse gear into a box. There may be a kit to adat hipo bike motors to ag style boxes with reverse. Bos strength would be a worry though, as even a super powerful bike only pushes a few hundred kilo's, not 1.2 ton.

As for Harley Davidsons, they are a great way to turn petrol into noise without the side effect of horse power.

The BMW and Guzzi engines have a dry plate clutch which would be a little simpler to adapt to the Sierra gearbox. The R series 1200 engine has reasonable hp and torque and has no problem with extended usage in the 6k - 8k rev range, yet pulls very nicely from just above idle as well. Surprised the above builder (as he is an aircraft person) didn't consider one of the BMW boxer engines as they are used in some kit construction planes with great success. Although thinking about it, cooling the boxer engine in a 4X4 environment would be an issue.

i was about to say hey 163nm of torque is not bad for a 1.1l V-twin. then it hit me that it was 110 cubic inches.. for a 1.8l that just plain sucks :D

the diff gearing would help the waight and they could be left stock cause te cod sizes on a bike act the same as a diff and direction wont be a broplem as i have a direction box out of a massie hedder so ill have as manny forward gears as reverse

the shaft isnt a problem as i can have a front sprocket made with holes like a diff flange insted of teef

If you really want to go all out, but still use a Suzuki engine, why not use two Hayabusa engines like this person did....
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3245151

And listen to the music this engines makes - you have to wait till towards the end for the best music.

A shit tonne of work for similar power to a 1.6 motor that slips in heaps easier, comes standard with reverse and readily mounts to a gearbox.

Still, if you are hell bent on it, give this a read:
http://www.muddevils4x4.com/forum/viewt ... f=9&t=1017
and not too many engines sound cooler than a bike motor on song with a nice set of pipes.

Plus, as an added incentive, if you pioneer a good, reliable, cost effective method of dropping a bike engine in, I will shamelessly copy you. :D

There is a place that makes V8's out of two 1000cc R1 motors put together and sells them for use in things like caterhams etc. That'd be cool.

But yeah it's an idea for someone with too much time and money.

If we're going to aim high...

Why not the same gas turbine engine that goes into the y2k?

Shaft output (youd want a hell of a clutch).

540Nm of torque at 2000rpm

run it on kero :D

What about jet ski motor?
1500 supercharged engines?

I think the clutch system will be your bigest hurdle if using a bike engine.

Too many Con's.......Motorbike engines are not designed for cars. You would be wasting time and money for essentially a setup that wont work off and on road. They will not mount to the transfer, chassis or anything easily.

There is a reason why the crank, block and gearbox are a lot stronger that those in a motorbike.

Your 'Fully Sic' setup would be a piece of shit.

like i said earlier harley's are not motorbikes, if he wanted to put a pump motor in a sierra the seppo stuff would be perfect. early Suzuki gs cranks can handle over 600hp and drive a 14" slick with out any dramas.
have a look at a f500 sprint car they are little 600cc jap motors.

What some of you guys don't understand is you do not want a race engine in a zook. You want an engine that can produce good torque at low rpm. Its designed to go off-road not race the targa rally. +/- 6000rpm at cruising speed would be a lot of fun for those long trips.

The V-twin engine the the zook is not a harley engine. It's a revtech which in no shape or form is harley.

Your overall running costs, which includes fuel, servicing and replacement parts would be a lot higher and a lot more frequent.

HIgh reving motors are fine. There are quite few running turbo 660cc motors these days (gwagen steve is in love with them, and from the limited time I have seen em work I can see why he is a fan)

So an 800cc + motor could be make to work quite well to light, huge rev range, alreay water proof electrics, carbs that will work on all sorts of angles
