stupid sparkplugs

well its been back two weeks and my usual fuel economy disapeared with my return. Pulled the spark plugs and they where caked in carbon so i put fresh one in all is well.

Took the front one out twice to check on it and now today when i fet i would check on that last time it wont go back in straight :S

I actually broke a plug trying to `encourage` it to go down the original path instead of cutting a new one.

Just checked the web for how to fix it and they all say tap a new thread with a helicoil...

please tell me there is a few other things i can try first

try running a tapping tool through it to clean out the old thread.

unless it is in a really bad spot, the helicoil option is not to bad if the tread is shagged.....
It is done with the head on if thats whats worrying you, but still needs to be done by someone that knows what they are doing or you may stuff the head.
if you go the tap path, be sure you put heaps of grease on the tap to capture any metal fillings that come off, so they dont fall into the cylinder...

go to a hardware store and pick one up - theyre not too expensive.

try repco or supercheap etc, and tell them what your after, they make a special one for plug holes that has a lead in that makes line up easier....

or

this one goes in the hole, you tighten them up like a dyna bolt then spin them round to clean up the treads.....

just an update, i end up just wacking the spark plug in at the odd angle and praying it would hold out till i hd money to vist my mechanic

silly but i was desperate and need to use my daily driver.
well i visited him today and he couldn`t find a tap with the right tread.

so he got one got the spark pugs and grinded a groove horizontally (1cm wide almost vertical) along the thread and then put it down the hole it cut a new thead nicely

cost? well i forgotten that he owed me a favour

(got fresh set of ngks too!)

92 SUZUKI SWIFT GTI 1.3 supercharged motor (MICROTEC COMPUTER?)

bp6es spark plugs

LEADS
1)go into supercheap atuto
2)look up the suzuki gti code for bosch leads, they are usually lest than $5 each it list two lengths,
3) find the longer length one
4)THEN see if you can go up one or two sizes in length
5) when you plug it ll in try to cross the cables at right angles then tape/cable tie it basically this is suppose to prevent the magnetic fields creating current in parrallel wires. (why you need slightly lnger leads)
6)Buy new leads every 6-12mnths

i feel this is a much better than blowing $80-150 on leads then not replacing the for 5 years or more

(some may disagree)
