I have a '89 2H 60 series with some problems.
It was going up a very steep very long hill and started pouring white smoke out the back (possibly coolant?) when it got to the top it stopped and now will not start. The engine was very hot.
The radiator cap is rusted solid. It turns over nice and theres black smoke coming out of the exhaust. It is getting fuel to the injectors and it is sucking air. This only leave compression.
My rough guess is boiled coolant, pressurized cooling system and popped the head gasket.
Is there something i could be missing as i know very little about diesels.

Hey mate,
Sounds like the head gasket is gone.
Had the same prob not so long ago and also wouldnt start because of the water leaking into the cyliders, thought it might have been compression but it wasnt. I had also warped the head slightly. a top end rebuild and shaved head will get u going again depending on what u have done.
had my head fully reco'd, shaved, tested and delivered back to my door for just under $600 with a VRS kit including all the gaskets for the topend and turbo. They're a brisbane mob called Brisbane Cylinder Head Services, would def recommend them, they pick up too.
