Thoughts and opinions on running one of these on the front of a defender.Are they easier on axles and cv's than lockers.
Definately easier on axles and CV because they dont 100% lock and can slip under binding and shock loads. This is also the reason why they arnt as good as a locker.
Also because the diff doesent have a pre load on the clutch mechanism as such (like a conventional plate style limited slip) causes the true track to behave as a totally open diff if one wheel comes off the ground.
That being said they are a very good limited slip and last a long time. I got one in the back of the lockless and my buisness partner has one in the rear of his rangie. Works very well with our traction control cause the traction control takes care of the situations when the diff becomes "open".
I dont know that I would put one in the front by itself (without traction control) because when crawling stuff when one wheel gets caught behind a ledge of something the the other front gets very light the true track will work the same as an open diff. This diff really needs both tyres on the ground to work.

Ive never actually had one in the front but they do list one for the front. I think the front one isnt as savage as the rear one. Probably would work well in the mud.

A TT would have to help the factory ETC. It would smooth everything out and stop the ETC from overbraking so it would even work well in the mud and sand.
Hard to know how close it would come to a locker. The traction control till wont work at very low speeds like a locker. You will probably find that the TT will stop most of the one wheel spinout just by itself and the ETC wont have to do as much. When the ETC does have to be used then is should work much better because once the ETC brakes the spinning wheel, the TT will load up and spin both wheels at the same speed and take over from the ETC.
Would be worth trying IMO but hard to predict results untill sombody actually tries it.

I have two TT's and Maxi-Drive rear halfshafts that will go into my 4.6 HSE once I get to the install. My plan/hope is that it will fit the truck's sleeper character and that the front will live long with this setut and 265/75-16 M/T´s.
