NH Pajero Transfer case final drive ratio

Post by nicinnz »

I have just purchased a 1992 SWB 3.0L Manual with a dead engine. I wanna swap my engine and diffs from my J Top 3.0L I know the diff ratios are different. Do the transfer casses have a different final drive ratio

Hi there, are you sure the diffs are differnt? In my experience your JTop will have 4.875 as will the hard top.

Tranfercase's should be the same.

I would say the diffs are different ratios as the J Top originally had 215/85r18 tyres on it where as the hard top I have just bought is on standard 15"rims. I want to use my running gear from the J Top and fit it to the hard top I have just bought. Thinking I might just lift the body's off and swap them rather than swapping the diffs, motor and gearbox. Its gonna be a bit of a marathon either way. The J top has a rear locker and I have just bought a new set of 265/75R16 Kumhos so want to run them on the hard top as well. The New hard top was a bit of a bargain and with the weather we have here is much more practical than a soft top.

Yes your right about the weather - especially this weekend!!

I have had both 3.0's in a JTop and hardtop and both had 4.875 diffs. If in doubt, have a look at the firewall where the code is under transaxle.

I know this is completely off topic but I have a good 3.0 motor just sitting in the shed 105km.
