Playing with 40S spring's

Reading Jakes thread about spring legenth's http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17340 has got me thinking. acording to thishttp://www.birfield.com/~ramullen/FAQ/TEXT/04-02.html the legnth of all 4 40S springs is 1070mm now what if you got say 4 60S rear springs (1160mm long) and reset them for more arch to get some big lift? yeah I realize this is not the perfect way to do it but from what I can find the biggest lift spring pack anyone sells for an FJ40 is 2 inches. and a spoa is not guna happen because of where I live (QLD). and reseting my springs isn't on either cause my rear shackles are virtical and are allready 2" lift. Getting new mains and wraps made up is the other way I can go but as Jake or luke could tell you I am TIGHT [/url]

go ahead and try it! But be aware that it will increase your wheelbase due to the fact that the distance from the fixed end of the spring to the axle mount is longer with the rear 60 series springs in comparison to the 40 series ones. You will need longer driveshafts. I would recomend longer shackles as well. And dont reset the springs untill you have fitted them and seen how much difference they make. If your still not satisfied then reset them a little. I have done a spring change to the rear of my 40 series. In my case it resulted in aprox. a 2 inch increase in wheelbase.
I left the shackle mount in place and just used longer shackles. Some people turn the standard shackle mount around. I didn't do the front springs. If you do be aware of any changes to caster angles. And if you do reset the longer springs so that the shackle is straight up and down (which i wouldn't recoment doing) you will get a lot of lift. Here is a pic showing that with 35 inch tyres. For demonstration purposes i jacked the car up untill the shackle was straight up and down to show you the potential lift. Hope this helps.

just wondering, i have considered going 60 or 75 rear springs.

what sort of drive shafts would you use to compensate for the 2in longer wheel base??

60s? or do you need some custom ones or what??

i used a shortened 45 series driveshaft . I used that because i had it lying around and the splines were in better condition than mine. It was cheaper to shorten the longer shaft than extend mine and get new splines. Shortening, new uni's, balancing and painted it cost about $115. I used 75 series springs because i also happened to have them lying around!

Was that a 2in lift over staindard or 2in over what you had? how does it flex and ride?

I like the Idea of gaining 2in extra in wheelbase
You could also just use one of those prop shaft spacer's but the longer shaft you did would give you better aingles for the uni's

Do the 35's rub anywere?
