Anyone got a source for grey import parts???

Post by want33s »

I'm having trouble finding the following parts for my 89 Toyota Hiace Super Custom 4x4 3L diesel auto.
: Gearbox mount.
: Left upper ball joint
: Upper and lower rear trailing arm bushes.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find these parts?
Thanks Jas.

Most of the companies that import them usually carry some spares.

Try looking up some equivalents (eyeballing??) ie try a Hilux upper ball joint from an IFS Hilux, etc. Perhaps a standard Hiace upper ball joint is the same?

IIRC, A mate who runs a workshop told me that any
hard to get "grey import" parts can be easily sourced from
"The land of the long white cloud"
I could chase further details Wed if needed.

cheers

I've been looking on Trademe (kiwi ebay) but no luck yet.

I have managed to find a part number that 'may' help...

Tried finding it on the online EPC but none of the Hiace's have 3L diesels :?

Just had a thought, if it's after 8/89, look up info for a 1990 model.

EDIT: Found it in 1990 model. Is it Auto or Manual ??
Can only find a LH, RH & Rear engine mounts, the rear one is possibly the one your after.

According to a toyota parts guy here, the 4wd hiace vans were never sold here new. The only ones in the country are used japanese imports. That said we've got heaps of them so someone must have the parts.

Can your dealer not run the chassis code and pull up part numbers? I can understand if price is a problem, I was once quoted over $200 for a pair of washer nozzles for a corolla.

Thanks Doug, toyodiy is where I found the part number.
I'll get onto toyota today to see how much $ (if they want to help).

Yeah mate... tried all the import places. They only bring in whole cars and unless someone smashes one there aren't many parts floating around. One guy said when he gets one in (rarely) it's like a school of sharks in a feeding frenzy!

the other way of going is finding out what other models have the same parts.

for example

A terrano I is
Pathfinder in Australia and USA

Chasis has been used on
D21 Navaras in Australia
720 depending upon the year of the terrano

The Terrano II uses the same chasis plus motor only that different is that it's got a ECU and the intercooler.

You might do yourself a huge favour, if you can find out what else is the same as what your've got.

Because if you can find something that's Australian it'll be way cheaper then going to toyota who then ring up japan and get them to send a part out.

I think that is the main reason why they are so cheap to buy you can't get stuff for about 99% of them.

some of the Toyota dealers will be able to help (its too hard for most)
Sydney City Toyota helped me with info about my Jap 80series.
I needed to give them the chassis/VIN number.
