Try East Coast 4x4 spares in Sydney. They sell reco motors which look the goods. Around the $3000 mark I think

That is a fully re conditioned engine, bar the injection system. If my 3l blows up thats where I would go. You could get them cheaper but wont be rebuilt, just a second hand engne which could go bang in 100ks or 400 000ks. You could get your engine rebuilt which might be cheaper, diesels are expensive to repair either way.

3 gs for a rebuilt one dosent sound to bad to me, just be thankfull it isnt a 12ht, 3 grand just for the injector pump to be rebuilt, 4 - 6 grand for a second hand motor, i would hate to see what a reco one would be going for.

I got quoted 3600 to rebuild mine, but thats walk in walk out (not injection system), so 3k sounds good, i assume thats exchange? is it removed and refitted? or do you just carry in an engine and carry out a better one.

3K is pretty good for a reco. I assume that would be exchange as well. I've also been looking at getting a reco 3L and the best i've found is about 6k fitted, no injectors or injector pump. 12 month unlimited km warranty (injector pump service advised or warranty may be void).
You would also be able to drop a 5L in (3 liter L series engine, drop in replacement) with minimal effort.

Personally I would nit go the 5L route. Ive had one in a LN106 and dont think it is as good as the 3L. Dont know why should be that little bit better with 0.2L more displacement, just didnt feel as good as the old 2.8L.
I may have got a dud but another mate has a used 2.8 (ex mine vehicle) the got a 3.0L and also said the same thing.

Fair nuff.
reconditioned 5Ls are more expensive too.
