DIFF REBUILD
Moderators: toaddog, TWISTY, V8Patrol, Moderators
the tools required usually significantly exceed the cost of having the job done at a shop.
you will need
dial gauge on magnetic base
30 or 32mm 3/4" drive socket with a lonnnnnnnng breaker bar
a tool for holding the diff flange securely to torque the pinion nut
a vice capable of holding the whole diff at a suitable angle for work
a shop press
a bearing separator or good 2 jaw puller
a pin wrench for turning the side adjuster nuts
a tool for measuring bearing preload torque (a spring scale works)
good 1/2" torque wrench.
'
and probably an assistant.
parts you need the bearings, seal, collapsible spacer and poiibly a new flange or speedisleeve.
gregorys manual has a reasonable procedure. the relatively easy part for you is that if you are reusing your existing gears then provided they are in ok condition they should set up with the same pinion depth so you dont need to muck around with pinion shims.
if you have the gear, have a go. if worse comes to worst you can always take a box of bits to the diff shop.
