I am seeking the help of anyone that knows how to set up two Magellan FX324 GPS in master and slave set up.
The manual doesn't really give me enough info
Thanks,
Jane

its better having them run together actually. so the inputs get put into one and it runs the other, but either can be changed independently and it will change the other.
so if navi inputs then the driver gets the same info. but if the driver wants to adjust something they can change it and the navi sees the same info now changed by the driver.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
I believe the problem is that only the master is able to input and change info.
I sought advice off hobzee in 2007 when we trialed a dual FX324 setup in a navrun.
What we found to work was to swap the sd cards before inputting the points.
You get an error due to the conflict in serial numbers for maps, but that doesn't matter.
Split the list of waypoints in half and number them so you don't overlap. Export them to the sd card, then swap back.
I can't remember if you have to import the waypoints or if it grabs them automatically.
This worked great for us as we got out of the camp quicker than most, and could look to the point following the one you were currently persuing.
Each to their own.

Hello Jane,
I just managed to set up two fx324's as master and slave. The manual is as clear as the Cliffhanger mud.
You'll need a null modem cable to link the serial ports from each fx324. The fx324 comes with female db9 connectors and Null modems also comes comes with female db9 connectors, so you will also need two 9pin (db9) gender changer to connect it all together.
Once you have the cables connected; then follow the master/slave instructions in the fx324 manual.
- The slave mode must be active in the FX324 MAP:
Menu ADVAN. Tab 2-Master/Slave Slave Enter
- The FX324 MAP serial input must be programmed in NMEA 183 format:
Menu SETUP Tab 4-Serial Input NMEA 183 Enter
cheers,
Alberto.
