Warn solinoid box HELP pics included

Post by andy1517 »

Guys just purchased second hand warn m8000.

Never worked with winches before.
I can get power to spin the motor one way but not the other.
I have powered both solinoids (i think) and both seem to click.

I have wired up as follows.

This wiring when i connect yellow wire to negative, spins the motor so cable goes out.
Image

This wiring when yellow is connected to other solinoid, nothing happens except for solenoid clicking.
Image

Even when i connect the solenoid back to other little terminal, so it follows the same wiring as other solenoid, still doesn't work.

HELP!!! please

Can you put some power onto the hand controller pins for the corresponding button to see if its in the controller?

Or find a friend with one and try it out.

If you can get to Bayswater you can borrow mine.

Now the motor won't spin. Before it did...what have i done??
bloody electronics..

its got me stuffed.

Now i can make both solenoids click in and out.

But the actual motor won't spin either way?

Is there an auto spark in Bayside that can help?

Also is there a clear wiring diagram that i can go off?

as you can see in the pics...

Mine it appears (i'm not that technically minded) only has 2 solenoids, maybe 3.

Therefore looking at the pics. Say if you gave each terminal a letter. What should i connect up to what??

I circled in different colour the terminals on the box... which colour to where/colour?? PLease...

Bloody mine has done the same thing. I pulled a tree out at home with it a month ago, then a few days later got my little ute bogged in the paddock so I went to get the winch on the tuck out and all it would do is click both in and out.... I didnt' have time to have a look at it before I had to fly back to work so I will be watching here with interest. I thought my hand controler could be shot or smiliar. Its only 12mths old and has only been used about 4 times total..

i'm goignt o pull the engine apart today, and have a look at the brushes. I heard that sometimes they can get stuck, and prevent the engine from turning one way.. not too sure, but worth a try.

The brushes on my XP9.5 were rusted in place within 12 months or purchase - and I'd never had it anywhere near water (yes it was new when i got it).
The solonoids clicked (in either direction), but no go till the brushes were cleaned up and some lube applied to stop further corrosion.

PS, what do you need a winch in Beaumaris for?

I live in beaumaris, but have a farm insouth gippsland, therefore use my 4wd a bit down there. Also do a fair bit of hunting too.

Can i buy a replacement solenoid box? I can buy a new box off a highmount, and comes with all wiring. can i fit this to a M8000, older style though? iknow i will need new hand controller, but going to mount in cab switch anyway.

Therefore will a new solenoid box off a highmount fit my 10+ year old M8000?

Take the whole thing to Mal Leslie (SG Leslie and Son) in Heidelberg, for a few hunge (maybe less) he'll make it like new again, waterproof it and make sure it wont corrode inside. If any solonoids are knackered he has spares etc.
Best ever investment i made for my winch.

guys, issue now with my winch. Have got it back together, and engine is working fine. Solenoid box is stuffed but.

I have a few options.
Buy new solenoid box off new Warn. However the new boxes have 3 leads to the engine, where as mine only has two. (permanent magnet motor). Therefore can i modify this to work on my OLD M8000
2. Buy new solenoids ($90) each, and replace.

What should i do???
