HELP!!!!!! How much does a disco's head cost?

Post by Dklyne »

A friend of a friend have broken down in coonabarabran in their 95 model tdi disco 2.4? They towed caravan from camperdown and broke down their. Local mechanic said cracked head. $5k-$7k.

Is that right or are they getting ripped off?

RACV will bring them back to camperdown, so any help would be great. They can sort it out when they get back

Cheers Daniel

Tdi heads commonly crack, and replacement heads were about $3000-3500 (just for the part) last time I heard....

I never knew they wanted that much for them! Go petrol. I recently got hold of a 3.9L complete for $500, gave it a rebuild $250, good as new, plus they make more noise!

Heads have come down in price a lot, can pick them up for less than $1500 and a guy on ebay sells them for $1300. If they are overheated severely they will crack.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

Heh... there you go... Rover parts prices are always moving dramatically. Td5 turbos used to be between 600-700 18 months ago, 3 months ago they're up around 1200. Go figure, and who knows where they're at now.

Stem seals = $20
Head Gaskets = $35
Rings = $40
Big ends = $35
Borrowed bore hone = priceless!
few extra gaskets, but that should keep it going for another few hundred thou. we can do cheap rebuild kits or do the work for you really cheap
