1979 early series 3 rover ute:how much

Post by 83-mud-lux »

one of my uncles friends has an old '79 land rover early series 3 and he said that i can hav it if i want it.

im looking to sell it but wouldnt hav a clue on wat they are worth:
its pretty well f*^$ed it has a lot of rust in it.
heres the good points:
-cab is good no rust on panels cause there alloy (apparently)
-brand new 5 stud wheels 15's with brand new tyres..sunraysia wheels
-interior is in good condition
-all dash and gauges work perfectly
-6 cylinder.runs alright just needs some playing around with it
-4 speed 4wd high/low works well
-diffs and running gear is good no noise or anything

now the bad points:
-LOTS and lots of rust (spent 80% of life on a beach)in the chassis
-steering joints are all flogged out
-needs new exhaust old one has millions of holes in it
-needs a new floor pan as there is none on drivers side.
-no brakes at all..only hand brake to stop it
-suspension absolutely screwed..

there is 3 ways i can do this:
-i take it back to my house fix rust, springs, steering spend lots of money on it to get it going...only if its worth it

-part it out selling all the good stuff and sending it to the scrap yard.

-or just leave it with the old guy that owns it

would like sum help with what to do as i hav no clue wat its worth..
first time buying a land rover..thats if i get it..
thx guys

Firstly, series 3's were made from 1971-1983, so it is not "early" if its a '79.

If you are just doing it to make money, don't bother. Most series bits aren't worth much more than scrap value. And sounds like it is too rusty to bother with.

I WILL BUY THE PARTS

If you get it the parts out of a resonable series can be worth around 4k. If the roof is straight ill buy the roof off you. If the complete lower dash is good ll buy that. And ill send a list next week of the other parts i need.
