rear window and door skin mods

Post by Wambat »

i was wondering if any one knew of any ways, or the legalities of fitting a rear window on a ute that slides similar to the side windows on the wagons. i have seen(only in movies pretty much) windows on some American pick ups that slide, and i was wondering if its possible to mod the back panel to accept a similar thing to the 80 or 60 side windows.

and if not, does any one know if its legal to mod your door so that the current level the top of the door skin(where the glass comes out off) can be cut down 100 mm? similar to 45 series half doors?

talking about a 75 series ute here.

cheers

Al

It can be done.

We put an electric window out of the rear of a surf in the back of a 2wd hilux a couple of years ago. So I cant see why you couldn't do the same with a manual sliding window. When it was finished it looked pretty factory except for all the other custom mods we did as well.

Just check with an engineer before you do it and they can give you ideas on how they would want it done to pass it.

Cheers Mick.

well the electric sliding one would be preferable, and was going to be on my todo list if i had of bought a 60 and chopped it,

so at the same time i ask the engineer about choping off 300mm of chassis i ask him about the window easy done.

is there any reason people can think of about the door question, mind you i havent had to squeeze out of the 75 yet, i had to on the 60 i had, thank god it had a sun roof as it helped a few times.
