'86' hilux gearbox problems...need help

Post by collins110 »

my 86 hilux yesterday just decided it didn't want to go into gear. coming up to a set of lights i can manage to get it into first if i pick the correct time. to reverse i have to turn the car off put it in gear and turn it back on with the clutch in.

whats wrong? something serious? or just a quick adjust or fix?

Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder.

Was it slipping before? IS the master and slave cylinder leaking?

Will be the master clyinder. Mine did the same thing, theres a valve inside that is supposed to be a one way valve but when it gets old it lets fluid both ways. Hope that helps.

If replacing the master replace the slave aswell. This is stop prevent a failure ao the slave if there is any debris in the lines from the old master
