Whats the best carb to have on a v8 in my cruiser offroad? I've already got a quadrajet, but I am after other opinions from people who are in the know
Standard holly will give you grief on uphill climbs it will spew fuel out the bowl vent and the ventri will suck it in a flood this is okwhen climbing steep dunes with WOT but no good crawling up steep inclines in tha scrub ...
Apprently the quady is one of the better off road carbs tho it has to be tweeked im not sure on the tweek but someone on here will know usualy the rover crew will be in tha know as they work good on the rover V ...\
Me i modded my 2bbl holly on the 4.4 in my rangie i blocked up the original bowl vent and moved it to the dead center top of the bowl this way it has to go vertical or roll over sideways just about before fuel will come out and all i did then was to put a longer breather pipe on the new hole and plumb it back above the ventri to let the fuel bowl breath as it requires slight vacume form the ventri tokeep the thing running ...
I found this set up to work better than the holly off road kit i put in a mates which got sold before i moddedit like mine and this off rod kit was worth about 60 od bucks for a couple of bits of plastic which did SFA realy ...

You can buy a plastic flute that is made to stop this problem I fitted one to mine when I was running a 253 in my lux.
It was only a few bucks & fixed the problem.

I got one of these on my truck, BLOODY NICE. I have never had a problem starting, offroad with angles or flooding or starving for fuel. Cost me 600 new. Bolt on out of the box, hook up 12v to the electric choke and away you go. Definatley one of the best investments I have made.
