Lighting butane filled tyre to explode the bead back on rim

It actualy worked!!!!!

I rolled the 38.5inch swamper front tyre off the rim in a deep bog hole, drove under a tree and used a hand winch to get the front off the ground becasue a jack would have sunk in the soft mud.

Punchered the end in on a portable BBQ butane can and filled the floppy tyre with the gas. Dipped a stick in petrol and held the tyre in place as best as I cound then my mate lit her up. It went bang and the tyre was perfectly seated on the rim!
In seconds it then started to vacume in with the air inside burning and we got the compressor on it just in time before it sucked the bead back off.

next time I would taek the valve out to avoid this

I burnt my hand a bit but with a crowd gathering for the show it was very very cool that it worked!

The "vacuum in" wouldn’t have been air burning, all the oxygen in the tyre would have been used up with the initial explosion.
The decrease in pressure would have been the gas inside cooling down and shrinking.
Well done on getting out of a bad situation.

And it sucked the 38 in like a flat pan cake!

The butane will only seat youre bead mate, its not quite magical enough to actually fit youre tyre onto the rim lol

If you can get an air hose to the valve straight after the bead seating then you can leave the valve in.
If there is a delay in getting air into tyre the vacuum may suck the bead/s back off again so it may pay to remove the valve.

About a 5 second squirt of Brut was the one we used and it worked perfect.
