Post by Nev62 »

I'm lifting the Raider body 2" this weekend and after any tips. Also how long should it take (first time I've done this).

wash the underside of the body a day before and allow to dry. wd40 all the nuts and bolts the night before. allow plenty of time and have a spare car handy to duck down to the hardware store for emergency bits and pieces just in case.

THis is the best advice.

if your mate has done it with 3inch, ask him to come around for BBQ.. then hit him up for it.

Take your time. there are always things you don't think about. Once you have everything undone check again, look for the wires you missed, heater hoses etc. Good idea to mark everything you will undo before you actually undo them. Also to be really anal about it any bolts you take out etc mark them or put them in marked bags, nothing worse than putting it all back together to discover 4 bolts and a weird shaped thing left over.

You will have to either modify the trans tunnel or the shifters to avoid fouling on the body once you are done. If the radiator shroud is attached to the body whilst the radiator is attached to the frame you will have to muck around with lowering that. Also bumpers will need to be sorted out

I thought that was a bonus weight reduction - are you telling me that's bad?

2 inch shouldnt be too bad.

is your radiator mounted to the chassis or body?

if its on the body undo the fan shroud. (if you have a engine driven fan)

check steering colum for length.

clutch line.

take your time. its a simple job but should still be done safe/right.

Yeah, like everyone's saying it's an easy job but it pays to be HYPER PARANOID.

You know, jack it up a little bit, look at what is moving, jack it up some more, look some more, etc. There are innumerable things that currently line up that won't any more, you can always deal with this but you must first notice them :)

Yep, Body mounted radiator. I'm going to have to find a way to space the shroud so it is still effective.

Steering colum should be ok once it is loosen off.

Things will be done slow - learnt that sometime ago when I was rushing to finish a speedway car and destroyed an engine.

What is the best way to extend the gear/transfer sticks?

One that doesn't get picked up to often is the fuel filler to tank line (+ vents). May need to loosen it to allow it to rotate, depending on the route it takes. Everyone tends to concentrate on the under the bonnet plumbing and mechanical bits.

you could drill the radiator some new holes 2 inchs lower (2 inches above the existing holes on the radiator) so that it sits where it used to and hoses/shroud are all still the same.

you may not need to lengthen the gear sticks but maybe just bend them to fit through the floor still. (i didnt have to do either) but on my 5 speed conversion i had to bend the transfer stick, i just put it in the vice and 'cold bent' it.
