Bumpstops

Post by bogged »

Saw in an old version of Yota monthly Kym Boulton has bump stops on his with a hydro ram down the middle to allow him to change it on the fly... if he is doing fast sections V heavy articulation sections.

Anyone seen or used or know about em?

I had a look/play with some at 4Way a few months ago, they look pretty sexy and are the stuff for offorad buggies and racers like Kim's macine but they are big $$$ and if you put them on anything other than a competition machine it's pure wank factor.

I want some :D

Is the ram hydraulic or pneumatic? The air can compress (duh!) to allow the ram to "spring", but hydraulic doesn't. As the ram compresses where does the fluid go?

Cheaper solution may be large bore pneumatic cylinder - vary the pressure to adjust the "spring strength" - don't know how long it would last...

I think they are both, like a short, very stiff shock absorber - oil and valving to control rate and a separate gas bit for compressibility.

yea the article was on Kym Boultons OBC truck...

Was more interested to see if anyone was using them here, more to tell people they are out there if need be..

I agree with wank factor for use on a road car..

They are air operated according to the article.

Birdy doesnt have them on yet, there are 2 sets waiting to be fitted in the workshop for both his and our truck. The bumpstops are hydrolic with gas internally aswell, cant think of what type of gas right now will post some pics up in the members section, havnt updated our section for a while.

We have done a few at work and help alot by keeping the nose off the ground and digging in on landings. The adjustable ones are good as the nitrogen pressure can have more or less psi for different rigs. ;)
