Standard 80 series vs standard ln106 Whats better?

seriously? I don't know how you toss up btw these two models. They are completely different vehicles and different people get them for different, individual reasons.
the 80 would be better in the scrub, its apples -v- oranges.

Dont see how the 80 would be better in the scrub. You will have better articulation with the 80's coils and more power but the HiLux has better clearances and light weight in it's favour. It is definately a horses for courses type debate. I own a ln106 dual cab and purchased it after having a Patrol. I chose the HiLux as it was not as big as the Patrol or a Land Cruiser, and doesn't use as much fuel. On road the HiLux is pretty bloody uncomfortable, which is part of the reason I am doing a coil conversion, and slow, which is why I am getting a turbo eventually. Off road I love it as I am a little bit narower than the bigger trucks so I can choose a better line, and the wheel base is really stable for rock climbing. With a locker, some muddies and a little lift a HiLux will go anywhere a similarly modified 80 series will. I am not trying to start an 80 verse HiLux battle as they are very different cars, but I did not buy a HiLux becaue it was a ute, it's just a great benefit. Both are great vehicles and in all honesty you wont go wrong with either. On a recent trip b grade trip we had a Pajero, GU ute, Gq Shorty, 100 series wagon and my ute all of which had a lift and muddies and only the pajero needed a recovery. Find a few examples of each, take them for long test drives and see which one feels better to you.
Im here for the sausage!
depends on budget...
other uses? long trips away? daily driver? towing?
amount of fuel used etc...
size of family?
but for me i chose an 80.
petrol 80s are cheap now. but thirsty.
go drive both on road and pick from that.
neither machine in stock format will be anything marvellous offroad in my opinion.

hmm. a standard 80 has awesome articulation for a factory vehicle and will handle some pretty wild terrain. I drove son of ranger bobs at lithgow in my DX 80 with sagged stock springs and near bald 7.50 /16 tyres.DIRTY ROCK STAR wrote: neither machine in stock format will be anything marvellous offroad in my opinion.
in answer to the original question, as has been stated, unless you need a ute, the 80 wins - more comfort, more power, comparable fuel economy, more space, more towing capacity, more seats, double the range, more room for accessories, far better on road manners, the only thing to really commend the hilux is price.
