Lift it, Lock it and Roll
I used what looks like a long rubber tube (25mm) with a brass thread in the bottom. So when the bolt is tightened into the thread the rubber blows out as it is pressed up against the hole. So it basically works like a rivet but because it is rubber it has some shock type effect. Looks like this.

I got them from the local nut and bolt shop. I got them for about $1.50 each.
Here's a link with some dimensions but it's based in the UK.

Mine were about 6mm thick from memory. I only used these on the pillar I used proper bolts with a backing plate on the bottom mounting for maximum strength and I could actually get bolts in there. I have used tek screws on my zook but they kept pulling out every time they touched a branch etc or just rattle out.

The rivnuts (if you can get them) are probably the best for sheet metal. The rubber ones would work best in a hole in a material of a good few mm thick or more, so the rubber has a good sureface area to grip to, otherwise the thin sheet would eventually cut into the rubber i think.
I just bought a rivnut gun for $50 from uk (shipped) and the rivnuts are about 30c each, a bit exy for a few bolts but i reckon over time they will be handy.

Having done about 20,000kms with the snorkel fitted and doing alot of corrigated roads in that time the rubber is still holding up well. The rivnuts would be good but I couldn't find anything out about them anywhere down here. The rubbers are only about $1.50 or so when I bought them and I bought some spares so if they do wear out it's an easy fix I wouldn't solely mount a snorkel with them because it will wear them out alot faster and won't be as strong. The rivnuts (if you can get them) are probably the best for sheet metal.
