This is my GQ Need Help (strait gas turbo)
This is my GQ Need Help (strait gas turbo)
Hi all I'm new on this site and Need to get some info. This is my ride.
Strait gas turbo Running 14psi
Front mount cooler
3inch exhaust
aftermarket head
2inch lift
Air lockers F&R
33inch Bfg's
After doing the turbo conversion I'm not 100% satisfied. I want to get rid of lag. Has any1 got any info on supercharging a TB42 or even supercharge and turbo on a TB42.

Hi there,
I am only new to Patrols (had mine for 8weeks) but it looks like a mod that can be done whereby each water jacket in the head has it's own coolant line. Once this mod has been done you GREATLY reduce the chance of stuffing the head. I know a mechanic who reckons this is a bad mod ( too many hoses to fail ) but I reckon what is the price of a hose compared to a head?????? I believe this is a good mod. Can anyone confirm this or correct me if I am wrong???????????????????

When you tuned it on the dyno, did you get a print out ?
can you put it up here ?
Does it have a boost curve on it ?
LAg could be many things, like the intercooler that will pull bugger all heat out of the intake, when the inlet and outlet are directly opposite on it.

Supercharged 80 SOLD - "OPERATION SANDY" now in effect.
This is its dyno run at 11 psi i havent had it done at 14 psi yet

No one has asked what size turbo so I'm asking? Dual b2 converters means gas support up to around 350-400rwkw so fuel supply is fine for those boost levels but peak power at 11psi is a bit low, really keen to know what turbo and what's been done to it? Is it a plain bearing or roller? Is it an ebay or other chinese Unit, and what size exhaust hosuing?, I can't see the throttle body\mixer is it an impco 425 or similar or is it a gas research item?
My bitch has boost, Nutter Engineering Turbo GQ
can someone please give me some more info on this mod, hav heard about it before but this is the first setup i have seentimferg wrote:The tb42 engine has a fault with getting hot spots and cracking heads this is a kit from all heads it comes with a larger water pump and bleed off kit. Its been fine since it was fitted 3 years ago
85 hi top drover, 31s, 2 inch exended shackles 2 inch bl.
88 tb42 swb mav,35 claws, 4 inch lift

I tune a lot of these and am sure I could improve what you have now, that turbo shouldn't be overly laggy. It looks like you have done all the right things, Twin converters is the go for anything over 160 rwkW (on our dyno) I posted a thread on one of our guys cars which is the same set up showing the mixture isses with one converter and line beyond that approximate figure (on our dyno).
What has been done to the distributor advance advance and what sort of mixtures are you running at 20 40 60 and 100 percent throttle? Gasresearch is very adjustable and often this feature is not fully realised by some tuners. I could tell in 1/2 hour on the dyno if there were gains to be had or not and how to get them, focussing only on driveability not peak power (no change in boost).
Cheers
Joel

A mate bought a good body patrol with a petrol motor to put his stuffed bodied turbo diesel motor in it the patrol with petrol motor has all the same hoses on it and we were stumped who the hell would do this snot
Another mate with a patrol ute petrol put a turbo on it and runs 15 psi go's really well its on straigh gas with intercooler of mercedes van type vehicle but when doing doenuts in sand it wont hold 3rd like my mate turbo diesel patrol

Mate forget supercharging, waste of power. It's all about the set up/size matching the turbo compressor and exhaust turbine/waste gate. I'v got a t3/t4 TR44 hypergear turbo with 38 mm waste gate on a TD42 manifold on gas reseach front mount cooler and it's got near zero lag. 10 psi@1600rpm and smacks the rev limiter @5k. My advise do your home work and study the compressor maps to work out the best combo. Found a good site to start with, google RAY HALL TURBOCHARGING. Quick guide comp map calculator.
Large gains can be gained in drivability off boost and on mild boost through ignition timing, I have fitted timing ECU's in the past to get the most out of the part throttles, what has been done timing wise??
