3rz engine variants

Post by macktuff »

gday all

been readin round for a while gettin set for a 3rz convesion in my hilux alot information on here so just set to go but wanted to noe a couple of things, from watl found from repair manuals

1
the 3rz came out in efi and carb, efi is 3rzfe were as carb is 3rzf
were the carb version ever released in oz

2
and with engines from different years of the hilux can you swap parts cause atm l'm gettin a 2004 3rzfe that comes with vvti and does anybody noe how the vvti works like can it be disable

3
also alot of people say use the 3rz bellshousing but could you get away with using the bellhousing out of 1rz hilux cause they come standard with g54 so in saying that if toyota didn't change the rear engine design on there rz engine series it should be a direct bolt up to the g52 then

also if anybody hasn't seen my ad in misc stuff forsale
l have 2 stylesdie trays for 83-88 extra cab

I've never seen a carby one, not sure if their available in aus.

Some have a dizzy and some have coils with internal ignitors

vvti, shouldn't be disabled, and is a good thing to have, i think the motors with 3rzs are not called 3rz's.

There is also a 2rz which is injected etc with that looks almost identical, but is a 2.4l.

Some have different oil filter assemblies

Some have different sump configurations from prados/hiluxs etc.

What parts do you want to change.

why would you want to disable the variable valve timing?

well l see in the max ellerys manual prado reepair says on frony cover hilux driveline as well also sez that there is a 3rzf carby and 3rzfe injected

here is my delemma

1
engine l'm getting has vvti on it and engine loom which has been cut so noe ecu connectors

2
the ecu l got sez 4x4 3rzfe manual transmission

3
the wiring loom l'm gettin is out of a 2001 model hilux where as the engine l'm gettin is out of a 2004 did it change much ????

l noe of the 8 port designs don't really noe wat that means intake ports or something someone confirm please

basaically l wanted to get this from one vechile but l've got 3 different sources for each

l don't really want vvti l see as something that can go wrong and the bloke who supplied the ecu who deals wqith nothing but jap motors recons it run off oil pressure or a signal for ecu

l wanna put a turbo on later down the track but if vvti is compaitable l will use it with turbo if l can't well vvti has to go failing everything else l'd probably do something different and put a webber on the 3rz with non pionts type dissie decent set of extractors and yer

so does anyone noe if 1rz 2rz 3rz kept the same rear engine design so using a 1rz would be simple

Don't think the computer will match up but I could be wrong. Is the 2.7L with VVTI a 3rzfe or is it called something esle.

I thought the 3rzfe was just an overhead cam motor.

well from wat l've read from marlins forums the 3rz was replaced with a 2tfe or something similair round 2005 with vvti so wheather or not vvti was avilable with the 3rz is questionable
