How hard is it to replace a brake master cylinder?? Is does not look that hard. But looks can be deceiving.

Any special tools I will need?? And how long should I give myself to do it?

Shouldn't require any special tools. Are you fitting a new one, or re-kitting the old one? If it's a re-kit, the bore will most likely need honing. Look for rust/pitting which will chop the new seals up pretty quick.

Bleed the new cylinder on the bench before you fit it, it makes bleeding the whole brake system a happier experience. Once fitted, start at the brake line unions, then bleed the system from the furtherest nipple (ie left rear). If you have a proportioning valve above the rear diff, bleed this too. SLOWLY pump the brakes until clean fluid comes through, then make sure there is no air coming through, repeat on all wheels. Don't forget to check the fluid level - it's a B!tch if it runs out and you have to start again :cry:

Don't forget the fluid is corrosive - don't leave it on anything you want to keep painted.

I have decided to go with a new one. As re-kitting is a bit to much stuffing around for now. I need brakes! May still re-kit the old one as a back up.

If your getting a new one get one from a non ABS 80s holds more fluid for better brakes

Already picked up one from Auto Barn yesterday. Its just the standard for a hilux petrol.
