75 40series landcruiser wipers

Post by pcman »

okie ive got a windscreena dn wiper motor on my 40 now but i cant get the wipers to work the windscreen is from a 82-83 and mines a 75 but all the wires where the same (had been cut so i rejoined them) heat shrink over them im getting power constantly on the solid blue wire when the ignition is on and nothing on the rest ive checked the fush and the wiper pump works and thats on the same fuse and switch

im stumped if i run power direct to the wiper motor on 2 of them i get wipers in high and low speed so im thinking that the switch is farked or what ??? im yet to remove the switch but thats next on my plan

cheers

how many positions are on the switch. because i put an older windscreen on mine. it was on a 40 with 2 position switch (hi speed/low) my one has 3 positions (hi/low/int.) the colours on the wires were the same but i remember i had to swap the colours around. ill go have a look at what i did for ya.

ok ive been stuffing around all day on these wipers and am no further ahead

still cant make them work unless i put direct power to the wiper motor ive checked continuity between allthe wires from the switch to the wiper motor and everythikng is fine

im getting constant power to the motor on the blue wire but thats all im getting nothing else

im thinking about finding a autoelec but i dun wanna get ripped off

sorry pcman, being reading your thread not realising i might have some info for you

first off, everything for wipers (switch, relay, motor etc) is 40 series, just off different donor vehicles (& diff ages)?

ok, i have ellery's manual that covers cruisers bj hj lj: 40's, 55's, 60's, 70's and bundys. also have toyota manual as a pdf, its pharkin huge :D . the pdf manual is for fj bj hj 60's and 70's, but the wiper section looks the same.

so, i can either save relevant pages for you and email, or, do you have a manual yourself??? will try to understand what may be going wrong for you tomorrow if have the time

ok yes i have a gregorys manual for it but its as useless as tits on a bull

been at work today so havnt had a play hoping to get a friend to take a look who is good at electronics it seems that everything is fine with the wiring diagram in the manual but its just not working ive even ran a ground wire from the body incase the wiper motor isnt getting a ground but thats not working either

would this pdf manual be small enough to fit onto a cd if it is id like a copy of it if your willing to send me one pm me and we can organise it

orrighty, sorry took so long.

i dont remember why i swaped the colours around (i think it was because the pin positions on the plugs were different.)

but there should be 4 wires

blue
blue with white trace
blue with red trace
blue withe black trace

i swapped:
red trace with black trace
black trace with red trace
white trace with no trace
no trace with white trace

thanks for that but unfortunatly not working still

tho i think ive found the problem but i got no idea how to fix it

this wiper motor seem to need positive power to trigger the wipers but my wiring is switching negative power to it if that makes sense

im really lost
where abouts is this relay that bluey mentioned

cheers

problem solved

Post by pcman »

solution was to unplug the switch and wire it up myself using my own wiring diagram

works a treat now :) and easy to fault find if it stuffs up again

was gonna use a new switch but couldnt find one that would work easily so am using the standard switch :)

cheers for the ideas guys
