shaving diffs
shaving diffs
searched to no success
just tryin to find some info on shaving GQ diffs. wanted to shave and laminate diffs, they are 4.3s and rear is factory locker type.
was going to buy the brace kit (will try and find photo of it) but wondering if still useable if you shave the diffs, and what have you guys done about the drain plug.
your input would be appreciated,

Someone posted that they remove the lowest stud/nut that holds the center in and replace it with a bolt, this serves as the drain point.
As far as shaving goes you need to remove and strip the housing. cut the bottom section off the housing and weld on some flat plate. You are limmited by the mating surface for the center as to how far you can cut. (you will destroy the gasket face before you fit the crown wheel.
For the bracing, personally for the price (and i'm someone who could fab the braces easily) i'd just buy a brace kit from Superior Engineering.

Not the best pic but you can see the 2nd one in the car here and the "Gasket Face" didn't need touching cause the pinion angle is best with the flat surfac (shaved bit) facing the ground.

What wicked said, the pinion points up so you shave off the section parallel to the ground.

im in queensland, are you suggesting there are laws against it, didnt think of that.
