105 = Live axle front
100 = IFS

why not a 4.2TD 79 series? they are MILES ahead of an old 75 in terms of comfort in the cab, especially if you get an RV spec.

Very True

But I can get one of these 105's for as little as 16k.
Wont get a 79 for that, maybe a wreck.

The 105 come with a bucket load of extras compared to the 79.
And I do love the 79ers.

the 1FZ will make you cry with its fuel consumption in a 105 series- I dont think i've ever heard of anyone getting below about 15L/100 in the things!

the 1HZ is sloooow :P (Im biased, i drive either a 4.5TDV8 or 4.2TD 79 series!) :D

15/100 aint that bad.
My dunnydore I use during the day chomps down 12.
Dont do a lot of Km's in the 75. Its done 8000 kms in 5 years, so fuel consumption doesnt bother me.

The only places I tend to go to when 4wd arnt to far away from here.
Takes 15 mins to hit the bush in any direction from Canberra..woo hoo.

yeah purchase price is good.
but what about by the time you cut it into a ute and do all the bits?
engineering? insurance dramas? time you will miss while doing it?

i just got a 1hz. it has a dts turbo running 15psi. it hauls, lots of low down grunt. keeps up with our 80 series 1fz with ease.

toyota should have made a 100 series ute.

I hz turbo's go well for a short time would not recommend it if many kms on the donk
best to get a factory turbo motor
strong gearbox and no precom chambers to crack the head for you

get a rolling 80 chassis and a 1hdfte put it in your 75 you will be way happier with the end truck

Eewww. I was about to offer some input when I saw that modified photo and threw up in my mouth a little. I hope you do a nicer blended canopy if you do go down that path.

But seriously whilst it would be a far more comfortable tourer than your current set up if you do only do so few k's a year it would be a long time in getting your moneys worth and if most trips are so close how much extra benefit is that extra comfort. Extended trips would make a difference to the thought process though. The 80 chassis under the ute makes a lot of sense cost wise.

Either way if you go ahead please think about doign it as a style side and makign it a bit classier. There are so few done that way and it's a shame.

Only problem with the styleside is the wheel arches. Not real good for my purpose.
Carrying alot of gear and sleeping in the back is a pain in the arse. The tray back is the best option. As for the longer trips this is something I plan on doing more of.

i really like style sides for how they look
but they cannot carry as much gear and i always dent them

I guess it is all a matter of opinion. All the stylesides that I have seen, I reckon they look crap.
If you love your 75 and its engine I would go the 80 chassis under it. I know someone who did it and he reckons it was every bit as comfy as his mates hundred as far as ride quality goes.
