td42 oil filter leak
td42 oil filter leak
i've noticed a small oil leak coming from the bottom of the filters(both) they are ryco filters tightened by hand as far as i can then nipped with strap wrench, are the rubber seals the filters sit on prone to leaking or wearing? its a very small leak but i want it sorted . i wiped the oil off and drove round the block and it was back again, any anwsers gratefully recieved
Re: td42 oil filter leak
Are these new filters that have just been changed?? Maybe they are faulty.
and you shouldnt 'nip' them with a strap, hand tight is more than enough, or you will have a gina of a time gettin them off.

yes they are new filters and i ran a film of clean oil round the seals first,i may take them off at the weekend and replace them, i was beginning to think that the oil dipstick tube that runs between the filters might be pushing them apart slightly, the first filter went on easy but the second was a bit of a performance due to said pipe,i'll bend it slightly maybe that will do the trick

Good point, I hardly tighten mine, they can be removed by hand - only just - Put a smear of oil on the new filter seal - i just sit the new filter against the old one and let the oil from the old filter seal lube the new one - then run my finger around it.garth wrote:check old O rings came off with the old filters, 2 x O rings on filter will leak.....
Maybe the thread is buggered (either one) and the filter is not going on square, mine seem to not sit on quited the same angle as each other (one is angled a bit higher)- could just be me, but they screw on freely and don't leak a drop or loosen - i mark them.
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

Pretty sure mine are square both vertically and horizontally.
