Diesel fuel tank for EFI petrol engine?

Post by Rota »

Hi guys im currently putting a 1ggte in my 84 hilux and i also have a wrecked 1993 2.4td surf. Can anyone tell me if i can use the diesel fuel tank from the surf into my hilux? Im not worried about the trace amounts of diesel in the tank but whether or not the fuel pump for the diesel will work for an efi 2L twin turbo six. The other option is a surge tank but if i can just swap tanks with little fuss i would rather do that.
Cheers for any help

the tank will be fine, but you will need a surge/swirl tank to ensure the EFI pump has a constant supply.

I don't think there is a pump in a surf tank?? and even if there is, it would be very low pressure, not suitable for EFI applications.

if there is a tank in the hilux already, leave it there.

Ok cheers, i thought diesels had high pressure fuel pumps? If not i guess will just go for the surge tank and bosh pump or something, or maybe a later model efi hilux fuel tank?

diesels have a high pressure pump on the engine. go for the surge and the bosch pump, cheap and simple.

Most are. There were very few v6 surfs in the 130 series. I had the later 185 series with the 5VZ-FE 3.4 V6.

You would probably be better off looking for a V6 4runner tank.
