Solid Axle Hilux / 4Runner Front Brakes

Post by Alan 4Runner »

What different front brake combinations have you used on your solid axle luxes and runners?

It seems that a few toyota brake components are interchangeable and I'm looking at a better brake setup for the front of my Runner!

Cheers

ok, the later lux has vented discs, grab a pair of these, and a pair of v6 forrunner callipers, it all bolts on and you have bsically 80 series size brakes....if you wanted to try something bigger, get a pair of 120 prado front discs and make up a calliper bracket, then you can run 80 series callipers or surf....i must stress, i havnt tried this particular mod.

Yeah heard the V6 runner calipers are the go, wasn't 100% sure whether they were vented rotors though.. (Assumed they were but wasn't gonna start buying stuff on an assumption  )

IFS vented rotors with V6 runner calipers and the 80 series master sounds like the way to go.. Should be pretty cheap too

Barnsy, do you know if you're running the standard booster or the 80 series?

um im not sure its too dark outside to go and check.
i just had a quick read of the engineers certificate and it says "the original master cylinder has been replaced with a larger capacity 80 series dual circuit master cylinder. and is a direct bolt on upgrade without modification"
soo i figure it bolts up pretty easy the certificate doesnt say anything about the booster.
sorry mate

No drama's bud, sounds like you're running the original by the wording of the engineers cert.
I've heard they are a straight swap, handy much :D

Cheers for the info guys!

from what i know you want the 80 series booster, not sure if you even need the master cylinder, there ar.e two types of them you need the 4 bolt type.

That's the earlier one yeah?
Probably easier to get the booster and MC as a unit anyhow..
