GQ wont start and i need it to asap
Hey all, GQ 4.2 TB42 running on gas only, drove home last nite from work and was running fine, now it is just sitting in the driveway and all it does is turn over it wont fire, it has shitloads of fuel, and theres spark getting to the plugs but it wont fire up, and i need it to cos i gotta go to work in 20 mins now

love_mud wrote:dont they normally take a few mins to freeze up though .. ??
yeah, but if they are full of air (no coolant at all) there is nothing to slown down the effect of the gas freezing the metal instantly. if he has been cranking the shit out of it, it could well be frozen up.
but i'd say 1 out of 2 solenoids is cooked.
I used to have a HZ on gas .. it had a dodgy as solinoid (I would pull it apart and rewind it by hand
every week or so to make it work ) and always had the 4 litre bottle of hotr water on hand on cold mornings to keep the convertor thawed out until the good old 202 was warm enuff to do it herself ...

tried the trick mentioned before, holdin the throttle flat to the boards and turnin it over after a few seconds, it fired up eventually and havent had a prob but now that i think of it its been taking ages to fire every time i start it but only the first kick, like if i go out 2moro morning it will turn over for bout 10 seconds b4 it fires up and once it starts i can turn it off and it will start again first kick, this has been slowly getting worse, what could be causing it to happen??
you haven't given many clues,ie carby or injected gq,Italian or american gas reg etc.
Plug gaps are critical on gas as it is harder to fire than petrol,a liquid.
Close your plugs up about 5 thou from the petrol setting.
Most gas regs require vacuum to lift the diapham and allow flow,so full throttle reduces vacuum and makes for hard starts.
Does your unit have a manual or auto prime set up,if so you should hear the gas flow when you switch on,or press the prime switch.
Plug lead resistance too high, insulation breaking down, causing weak spark at plugs.
High "tar" build up in the reg, causing sluggish diaphram movement and reducing gas capacity, which results in power loss and hard starting.
Give her a small squirt of ETHER to encourage her to fire and carry on on gas if it is only a starting problem.
Good Luck

carbie, didnt know there was such thing as a LPG EFI motor?
and full throttle helps it start easier, well it doesnt turn over for as long before firing, could just be the way its meant to be?? but just seems strange that to start it up for the first time when motors cold it turns over for ages b4 it fires up

when you were at jeremys gettin ya bar done your coolant was down wasnt it???? maybe it was taht low that the converter was allowed to freeze up, or tehre is an air lock in the cooling system, then again i may be way off, just the thoughts of a NON LPG-qualified 4th yr

Does it run on petrol??? If so is it an auto change over LPG\petrol system?
Wondering if the problem is on the petrol side of the system....

idle mixture
Hi
i am messaging from the other side of the world so count yourself lucky...
ehehehe
your idle mixture is screwed. you need to adjust this to help you start when cold..
it looks like you are running to rich thats why you need all that extra air to fire.
you also might have a diaphram problem in the mixer
