just got myself a kit for a HID upgrade but am curious to kow if your able to cut into and extend the wires from the bulb to the ballast without affecting anything?
I simply want to do it to be able to put my ballast right up under the dash out of the way. cheers

it is not advise that you cut HV leads of the ballast or the globe they are a silver resistor wire and it could affect the performance of the kit . we have 700mm extension leads for $33 each hope this helps

Be very careful with this. Technically anything over about 50V you need to be a licenced sparky to do and this is well above that.
Best option is to have the Ballast as close to the globes as reasonable. If under the dash must be done, run it as a completely separate loom to make sure no stray voltage can get into the 12V electrics. Also I would make it very sure that it was water tight.

OK, so it is advised against cutting the wires and using other than the "silver resistor wire" as used in HID's, what about cutting the wires/removing the plugs and refitting the same plugs so the wires can be run through a grommet/sealing set up to stop dust/moisture getting into the headlight assembly?

If your careful, and examine the plugs, its possible to remove the terminals from the plugs, a pin or needle is needed to push the prong latch thing in the terminal down- basically the same as any other terminal in a plug.
A set of HIDs I bought didnt have the plugs fitted, which made it easy to get the wires through small holes and grommets.

As for the "High voltage" being dangerous, volts doesnt kill you, its the amps that will get you.
Another question:
If I want spare globes for my HID setup, will I have to go back to the suppliers I got my system from, or are the plugs universal on the ballast and globes??
