Question is what a the Pajero 3.2 DID engines like and autoboxes, cant really afford sonething with ultra low kays on it, so am wondering have you guys had any real problems with the engines or transmissions, the car i am looking at has about 220 000 kays on it and with all the bells and whistles tis also a 2004 model and they are asking about $22 700 for it
Cheers in advance, sorry for the rambling have kids running around going mental

Mitsu Question

I luv my NP DiD 5sp auto.
The common rail didn't come out until the NS model late 2006 (power/torque was pretty much the same) which had a DPF - there were issues with it but eventually a software fix became available and that seems to have fixed it.
The current NT model had a much uprated 3.2 with a lot more power/torque improved DPF and new, stronger auto plus better NVH.
Beware the NM/NP models are noisy with a lot of diesel clatter - the 5sp auto is fantastic you won't ever wish for the 5sp manual.
Great offroad with the manual function.
No real issues except for the timing chain guide - there have been a few that have failed resulting in massive damage - there is some evidence to suggest that it could be due to not getting the tappets adjusted at the recommended intervals (or lazy dealers saying their ok without physically checking) - the part is only worth $50 !!!! The other one that comes to mind is the rear CV's popping out (especially if used for heavy towing) and loosing the diff oil. This was due to having too small a groove & circlip on the splined axle shaft. There is upgraded companion flanges/circlips available and they will replace them free if there is a proven issue as a sort of a unofficial factory recall. I believe the late 05 models on got the modified axles/circlips. It doesn't seem to be a problem if your not towing though.
Recommended service intervals are 15,000k's with a recommended oil/filter change at 7,500k's.
If it's had the proper maintenance performed then it could be a good buy. But like with everything buy the best you can possibly afford.
In terms of general reliability their pretty good, handle, brake etc really well for a big truck. There are quite a few mods available for them now.
My economy is around 11-11.5ltr/100km around town and as low as 9 for a country/highway run. The torque of the diesel is excellent.
For a family tourer they are an excellent rig.
