Hi guys im thinking of buying a new GLX mid wheel base cruiser
and looking at putting some gear on it to use it for mainly towing my comp truck and trailer that weigh's 3 tonne and i was thinking of doing a fair bit of touring. my main concerns are power, reliability, cabin room, and the ride. Im getting out of a 80 series cruiser with a 1hz turbo inter cooled diesel with 168hp at the wheels. Its a really good truck but I wanted to take advantage of the government rebate on a new vehicle. so some feedback would be great thanks.

The body has been around since 1990 or so and has been upgraded with coil front etc around 99 and when the new front come out Aus got them the dont come with a sub tank and you cant order with one they have good cabin room and more foot room with there flat floor unlike the cruiser utes etc that have a high floor with tank under it, the good thing about getting the GXL is you get all the fruit with elecs and chrome trims and better seats yada yada and you can get the option of factry diff locks which work out cheaper than 2 arb diff locks and compres and its under warnty and if you wait a few months they are bringing out the new dash with blue tooth airbags etc

2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
Got a 76 GXL and love it. Tow the camper trailer with it mainly, about 1.5 ton, and find it really good for towing. Power wise it is great and way ahead of the 1HZ with aftermarket turbo. I have to gear down on the long hills, Back to 4th, but I think I'll cure that with a chip and exhaust... Have lifted it two inches and fitted a full set of bars and a set of 285/75's. Not as roomy as the 100 series i had but still has good space. Comfy to sit in but like most if you had to sit for 10 hours you'd appreciate a good set of seats. It's good on fuel but like anything if you flog it you can see the needle dropping in a hurry. No duel tank available for them from the factory but a 166L long rage is available from ARB and tucks up nicely. I have only done about 20,000k's but have had no issues. The factory diff locks are a great option especially at the price.

thanks mick for your detailed reply they sound like a good thing going to test drive the new speck one tomorrow and if i get one i will get the bars, winch, mats, lockers fitted up factory and do myself 2inch or 3inch lift, 285 or 305 micky mtz's ,exhaust, spotties,roof top tent, draws, and maybe a chip if it dosnt void the new car warranty
yes your chip will void your warranty, not on every component in the vehicle just the mega expensive one's Offering this advice as someone who see's claims turned down everyday because of mods... It's a 4.5ltr TD V8!! Wait the three years then fit it if your worried.

OR, remove when something goes wrong... even if it leaves a log of activities on the ECU for fault checking they have to prove beyond doubt that you had a chip fitted and with a dp chip, they are completely plug and play.
DP chips have a vehicle warranty anyway, where if the chip causes the problem (they are reasonable about it, not total carnts like toyota) they will replace the engine or vehicle for up to 5 years after fitting.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Coming from 9 years working for dealers, I wouldn't risk it. Depends if you have the money to pay yourself if something goes wrong or if you can rely on the chip manufacturers warranty.
Vehicle manufacturers warranties are generally a mine field, to the discretion on the manufacturer and, if written anywhere, are open to intrepretation generally by the manufacturer

I have a 76 and it is great it has so much talk a bit ruff on the back when on long runs but how Carr's when the truck will clime any thing you point it at . only one thing when you get one ask the dealer about the full supply pump mine went in the first two weeks of having it they blamed the ECU now it gos throw the juice i get about 650 KM to a 90L tank
I don't own one but I test drove one and was very impressed with it as a bare bones tourer. Power is simply awesome in it's smooth effortless delivery.
Seating position seems great for touring, big enough cargo area and feels like a very solid rig.
If I had the dough I would order one as soon as the nearest Toyo dealer was open, with aircon and twin locks.
Did I mention the effortless power, these things aren't race cars but talk about torque from woe to go

Definately go toyota i had a troll & it would only be warrantied for 2.5 tonne towing which is piss poor for a 4.2TD intercooled..
So toyota it is!!!

I got the 2006 Rv ute yes 4.2 the last of the breed, will do anything so the new V8 will be better, i chipped mine with a DTtonic & beaudesert 3 inch asap ( made a BIG difference) with the idea of unplugging if anything happenned..
They wont know its there unless they go looking because something is wrong in which case you will have taken there after unplugging the chip..

apparently now you get aircon included in the $57,000 asking price!
Obviously the DP chip is different to the one on the 1KZ- you have to cut wires in the loom to fit that one....
And i'd wait for the warranty to be over before chipping it- at about $1800 EACH for the injectors, your looking at nearly $16K worth of repairs if you screw up the injectors and pump.
I think if i had one and it ate a load of watery diesel, i'd be speaking to my insurance co pretty quickly bout making a claim on it!
