40 Series Suspension - Best fitout???

Hi guys,

After finally getting my truck on the road, am looking at doing the suspension to hopefully settle out the rough ride thats in at the moment with the ancient set up. Looking at replacing everything, buying as a whole kit hopefully.

Been looking on various forums and cant decide which is best for the forty. Found someone really pumping up the Dobinson's outfit, while others are desperately warning against TJM's XGS rigs.

Whats the best in terms of performance, and then whats the best value for money? If any one can throw around some prices that would be great also.

Cheers,

Cheers,
reckon you can achieve both performance and budget by doing it yourself.

using 2nd hand springs and new shocks youd be lookin around 1k if you have to buy everything.. usually you can find that stuff cheap. only takes a bit of patience, trial and error to get some decent results on the cheap. read up in the cruiser bible and you'll find everything you need.

care to share any pics of what your starting with? :P

Making your own RUF packs would be the best way and cheapest too go on the scrounge find as many leaf packs as you can be it 40/60/70 series stuff and make up your own ...
A pipe bender is all you need for reseting the leafs and make the packs as long as ya can fit in ...

Well, went into TJM and enquired about the XGS range, but no luck with them for a 1979 model, they only supply for 1980 onwards. Leaning towards a Dobinson package now cause have extended my budget.

Anyone else done a complete Dobinsons fitout? I've been quoted roughly $1700 - new leafs, shockers, steering damper, greaseable shackles, U bolts and pins.

The price seems pretty good, anyone else think otherwise?

I'll post up some pics tonight of what I have to start with, and then the finished product in a few weeks.

Talk to Twisty as he had a custom set of leaves done by Dobinsons. Probably a bit long for what you want but his ride quality is a lot better & flexes well.
