8274 Winch Bar

Post by Kiwijero »

I have had a Warn 8274 on the shelf in the garage now for nearly 12 months now….. Finally made the time to get this fitted on to my truck.
Problem is that the ARB bars for Pajero’s are all for low mount winches, not the high mount’s.

This is the bar 4 years ago, before it went onto the truck

So took some measurements and got a cradle fabbed up (5mm steel) that will drop into the top of the middle of the bar, and pick up a couple of the bolts mounting the bar to the chassis rails. Between the bolt mountings, and the cradle being fully welded into the bar, the structural strength of the ARB bar should be maintained.

Picked the bar up on Wednesday from the Engineer.

Decided that the best option was to powder coat the bar to match the original bar, as this had resisted impacts and rust better than I had seen any standard painted bar.

Picked the finished bar from the powder coater on Saturday morning, fitted, ready for the winch now !!

Nice one, good to see you still here.

I have an ARB bar on its way too and also have a hi Mount in the shed. Did you consider butchering the grill a bit to fit it in where it was? I have had a look and reckon it can be done - I ahve already butchered mine a bit to get the XD 9000 in there.

Still happy with the low gears? I haven't got round to it yet.....

Thanks

Yes had originally looked at trying to move the winch back further (given the greater depth of the 8274 to a 9000, however that would have meant cutting into the body panel that goes across under the grill, in addition to interferance from the bonnet lock mechanism. In the end it was simpler to move the front of the bar out 50mm to allow more depth.

Low gears ? Definately one of the better modifications to the truck, particularly when winching.

Winch is in now and mounted. Using the motor off my original XD9000 winch as the 8274's original motor was 24 volt and had been cooked when I bought it. Looking to replace this with a 6hp motor some time (when the Pentagons not watching the credit card)

Spooled on 40m of 10mm Amsteel blue, still looking where you can buy those rope protection sleeves I have seen around.

Have bent up a couple of winch horns for the rope that bolt through the bar, just finished painting them with black zinc.

So.... ready for this weekend's trip if its needed !
