80 series body swap......

ive heard that they dont have numbers stamped into the body...
is this true?????........ as im looking at putting another body on my chassis

they have vin and compliance plates though?

Correct. Held on with pop rivets. The body has no numbers stamped into it that match with any of the numbers on the Compliance plates. Its common although illegal to replace a cab and re-use the original compliance plates.

Exactly .. particularly the use of the word "Illegal" to replace a cab and reuse the original compliance plate.

Having done exactly this swap (in Qld), I can confirm, after spending many hours arguing with the Transport Dept staff and then having a long conversation with the Police Fraud squad, that the practice of changing compliance plates onto other shells is completely illegal.

In he end I had to hand over the original compliance plates and apply for a surrogate Vehicle Identification Number :bad-words: .

How did they know it wasnt the same body?
