Going from Diesel To EFI petrol Fuel pump set ups

G'day,
I've got an 80 series which was 1hz powered but is now going to LS1. What's the best way to set up the fuel system in this? I have the stock twin fuel tanks that the 80's normally have.
Should I do a surge tank set up? If so what type of fuel pumps would I need to keep the fuel up to the v8 at the right pressure?
Or should I get a stock 1fz tank set up and try and bolt that in or put an intank fuel pump into the tanks I already have?

i would think the swirl pot idea is the way to go,
you will need a holley blue or black pump to feed the swirl pot, then a hp pump to feed the v8 injection system.
but the intank system is the alot more hassil, need to 2 hp pumps

You can feed the EFI pump from a Holley or Carter carby pump, a swirl pot isn't totally necessary but it is worth putting the lift pump close to the tank. The LS1 if stock needs to be set up with an atmospheric vented fuel pressure regulator, otherwise you will need to reset the injector flow rates in software. Standard fuel pressure is 4 bar. You will need to get into the ECU for anti-theft and if not running a speed sensor I do some mods to the IAC setting to ensure the car dosen't stall while slowing to a stop or while putting it into gear if it is an auto, there are also some reasonable performance gains from tuning, particularly in low to mid torque.

So I will need a fuel regulator aswell as I can't get a high pressure pump at the right pressure? Also I'm running the standard 5speed manual in the cruiser and didn't opt for the speed sensor from marks. How hard is it to modify the computer to get rid of the speed sensor stuff or do I need too with the manual?

Fuel pressure is regulated by a regulator. The pumps always provide higher pressure than necessary, and the regulator works by trimming that down. I have never heard of an EFI system where the pump alone regulates the pressure; I think it would be too hard to build a pump that was always right.

this is the way i do all my external set ups on zooks. you will need a bigger surge tank for you're motor. i put the high pressure filter behind the hp pump just in case something goes wrong with the reg and the surge tank gets more pressure than it should.

I would suggest you mount the efi pump at the bottom or lower than the surge tank unlike the drawing as it is using gravity to feed it, they have poor suction hence the need for a lift pump.

So how many LPH would I be needing from the lift pump? Anyone have a tried and trusted regulator that will work for the ls1 any info is much appreciated.
